Regional Employment Boards and Other Career Resources

Regional Employment Boards (REBs) help residents become economically self-sufficient and part of a competitive regional workforce. Metro North REB has many resources to help your learner find local career opportunities.

Throughout Massachusetts, there are 16 REBs, which are public-private partnerships aimed at building up a competitive workforce of local residents. These policymakers, educators, and developers are trying to connect the needs of residents with the needs of local employers.

The Metro North REB serves much of the Greater Boston area north of the city. They have many useful opportunities for learners who are new to the local workforce. And for learners with children, especially in grades K-12, REBs have even more to offer.

While part of the REB is focused on planning and policymaking, there also are opportunities available through REBs which learners can find helpful. There are several local career centers overseen by the REB. The REB can also help residents find training centers to gain skills employers look for. In addition, youth opportunities are available for learners with children interested in entering the workforce.

Career centers in Cambridge, Chelsea, and Woburn help an average of 10,000 residents find jobs each year, and the current average wage of those jobs is $25.29/hour. Career Source serves Cambridge and Chelsea, while The Career Place is the center for those living near Woburn.

Check out these resources and pass them along to learners who might be interested in more career opportunities, but don't know where else to look or how to start the process. These are great resources to take advantage of.

Happy Tutoring!
