What Success Means: The Problem With Perfection And How It Can Stand In Your Way

As a tutor, it is easy to want to fix every single mistake your learner makes. However, it is important to remember that your learner's goal is to communicate, not to be 100% correct.
For most beginning English learners, the goal of tutoring is successful communication. In other words, conveying what they want to say to another person in a way that the other person can understand. This may seem very basic, but it is easy to lose sight of this fundamental goal when you are tutoring, such as getting caught up in making sure your learner is using "I" and "me" in the right places. In the big picture, that distinction is relatively unimportant.

Happy Tutoring!
